Artist's Comments

A young wild elf scout , her duty to protect her forest home from intruders and poachers.
This portrait was previously featured in the ' Portrait Adoption ' page here on Deviant Art, I took it down from Portrait Adoption after it was selected for Exotique 3, to be able to show her on-line without watermarks.

Hey, how do you paint on the skin. Ive got a new drawling tablet and just started using it and would like some tips on how to get smooth shading and colouring.

great work. Much expression, manly in the eyes.

Hello to you!
I've some WIPs around, for instance here: [link]

and here (in progress now): [link] maybe those can be helpful.

What program do you use for painting? I generally mix Photoshop and Painter. Have you any in-progress work you may show? It would be easier to give useful suggestion that way.

Thank you, I always try to focus on the eyes, they are the 'life' of a portrait, in my opinion.

Thank you, happy you like her.

From what I see you color in a very 'graphic-like' way (like cross-hatching with a pen, I mean). Do you have any experience in painting with traditional color media (watercolors, colored pencils, oils)?
Working in color, I usually start defining masses broadily with three tones of my basic colors (for instance for the skin a medium, a dark for the zones in shadow and a light one for the zones in full light) using a rough-edged brush, then the refining begins.
If you want to try the method out, start with this, once you are in the 'defined masses stage' we'll go on with more suggestions and tips.
