Artist's Comments

'Fatamorgana' was painted for the CG Challenge 'Alien Uplift" (no it didn't have to be based on David Brin's books, it was more on general alien-human interaction).

After a long time the answer to 'Is there other sentient life in the universe?' has come, and Earth doesn't like the answer.

The Zeron are here, they are high energy, featureless shape-shifters. More than that, much like lichen they are the fusion of two species, to produce a new Zeron an 'energy seed' has to combine with another being, and humans have the highest compatibility.
Are they 'evil conquerors'? Would it be right to condemn them to extinction? Is there another solution?

These human maquis aren't concerned with
philosophical dilemmas, they believe they are fighting for human survival. Often, though, things aren't how they look.

Title note: 'Fatamorgana' is one of the Italian names for 'mirage'.

Fatamorgana by ~Thaldir is a well worked and complete scene with an interesting array of characters in a beautiful detailed setting. A creative concept flavors and drives this piece nicely (Suggested by ~MythArcana and Featured by ^archanN)

I've been doing a quite a bit of work under NDA's, so I can't show anyone. That's so un-fun! But hey, you gotta do what you gotta do. Work on e-published book covers has picked up, but it's for the erotica genre, and all they want are photomanips. It's not exactly the sort of stuff I gleefully include in my portfolio, though I enjoy the techniques quite a bit, and have made some dear friends through the field. I miss all the cool fantasy stuff! I'm actually at a cross-roads; I'm not sure what direction I want to take my career. I hunger to be shown in galleries, but that's SO risky, in this economy! Additionally, my husband got laid-off three weeks ago, and is still looking for a new job. Thankfully, we had some money put away, but that's quickly dissolving. I've been basically selling myself to the highest bidder, artistically, so that we can get some money coming in, which has left me frazzled and with NO time to do personal work. I never meant to disappear! But life sometimes takes you in distracting directions. I thought as the kids got older, they'd get easier. No such luck! :XD: This year, I REALLY want to make some decisions about streamlining my direction in art, marketing and branding my image, and pin-point what will make me both happy and rich! Heh! If you have any words of wisdom, I'd love to hear them!

Words of wisdom? Whish I had!
At the moment I'm really grateful to have a steady day job, so that I'm free to choose who to work for and set my own pace in the industry, the more I look around the more I believe that's a real luxury nowadays.

If the gallery businness in the USA is anything like over here, it's extremely risky and dependent both on the whim of the critics and on patronage, personally I would 'sniff around' and try it on the side before deciding if making the jump.

Whish I could be more helpful...
Best wishes for your husband's job search.

Thanks! I'll keep you updated if anything exciting happens. But until then...I enjoy seeing what you cook up, and hopefully, I'll find the time to do something myself!
:iconthaldir:
You are welcome! I'll be sure to keep in touch. Fingers crossed for satisfying(and monetarily rewarding) art time.
